Mechanical Issues Derail A.J. Emms’ Top-10 Effort at Holland Speedway

HOLLAND, New York — Battling for a top-10 finish in the Race of Champions Asphalt Sportsman Modified feature at Holland Speedway, mechanical issues ended the effort for A.J. Emms.

Making his first trip to the New York oval this past weekend, Emms posted a lap of 15 seconds in the second practice session, setting him up to start sixth for the third heat.

Utilizing the qualifier to get more experience with the track and learn, Emms looked to make his way forward, ultimately crossing the finish line in sixth.

His qualifying effort landed him an 18th-place starting spot on the grid, but he would not stay there for long. He begin making his way forward in the running order, breaking into the top-15 at the halfway mark.

The second half of the 40-lap feature saw him continue to make up ground, working his way up to 12th in the final 10 laps. Unfortunately, with six laps to go, overheating issues began showing through with a loss in power. He would drop back a couple spots over the next series of laps, before heading pit side with two laps to go. He was credited with a 19th-place finish.

Shout-out to Cathy and Paul Townsend for the opportunity to race for them.

A.J. Emms Caps Off Season with Heat Victory, Pair of Top-10’s

MILLGROVE / PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Battling up front in the final two races of the 2024 Just Foam It OSCAAR Modified season, A.J. Emms picked up a pair of top-10 finishes.

The stretch started off well at Flamboro Speedway, with Emms holding off a strong charge from behind in the final laps to pick up the victory in the opening heat. He then backed it up with a fourth in the second qualifier.

Taking the green flag in fifth for the feature, Emms looked to make his way forward through the 40 lap affair. He was able to get up as high as third, when a caution came out relegating him back a spot to fourth when scoring went back a lap. Restarting on the high side would prove to be a disadvantage, ultimately seeing Emms cross the finish line in fifth.

A week later, the series travelled to Peterborough Speedway for the finale. Emms missed qualifying on Friday night, relegating him to starting tail on the field for Sunday. He made his way forward through the opening half, moving up into the fifth spot by the halfway mark.

Looking for fourth, there would be contact made coming off turn four, resulting in him getting sideways. Emms made the save, but dropped back a pair of spots in the process. He was unable to make up the loss ground with a lack of cautions, crossing the finish line in sixth.

The result builds upon the team’s successful Just Foam it OSCAAR Modified series numbers, which include 45 heat wins (2nd all-time), 61 top-five’s (series leading) and 75 top-10’s (series leading) in 91 starts. The sixth at Peterborough was his 23rd consecutive top-10, which is a series record.

After showing speed throughout the afternoon practice, Emms carried the momentum into qualifying in pacing all 10 laps of the opening heat. The second qualifier saw him go around for a spin after contact, rebounding for a third-place finish at the checkered.

A.J. Emms Rebounds for Podium at Sauble Speedway

SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Despite going for a spin early in the feature, A.J. Emms rebounded for a podium finish on Saturday at Sauble Speedway.

Emms started off the night well, working his way forward in his first heat to take the top spot with three laps to go and score the victory. He then started pole for the second qualifier, holding off a heavy challenge from behind that included a couple bumps along the way for another checkered flag.

Taking the green flag in sixth for the feature, he began to make his way forward, taking over the third spot with six laps on the board. Unfortunately, contact from behind a lap later sent him around facing the wrong way in turn one and two.

A.J. Emms Scores Top-10 in ROC Sportsman Event in New York

NEW YORK — Battling up front at two different tracks in New York this past weekend, A.J. Emms was able to score a top-10 finish in the Race of Champions (ROC) Sportsman Modified event.

This past Friday, Emms made his second trip to Spencer Speedway to participate in the ROC Sportsman Event, courtesy of an opportunity from Cathy and Paul Townsend. After showing top-10 speed in practice, Emms picked up a fifth in his qualifying heat to set him up to start 14th for the 40-lap feature.

Taking the green from the outside of the seventh row, he was able to escape a series of incidents that happened ahead of him while making a couple passes throughout. The perseverance paid off, as he crossed the finish line with a ninth-place finish.

Saturday would see a new opportunity, with Emms making his first start at Lancaster Speedway, once again behind the wheel of the No. 2 Modified. After having to start tail of his heat race due to inaugural appearance, he made his way forward to finish fourth and qualify for the feature re-draw.

Taking the green flag from eighth, he battled inside the top-10 throughout the first half of the 30-lap affair, slipping back to 12th after getting stuck in the outside lane. He looked to battle back on the series of late-race restarts, withstanding contact to come across the finish line with an 11th-place finish.

Emms Racing is proud to be supported by BAE Enviromental, Wolseley Lodge, TL Tire, Speedy Glass Orillia, Bromley Automotive Ltd, Black Barn Golf Cars, Jayne at Good Things Promo, and Short Track Musings for the 2024 race season.
