Come feature time, he immediately began making his way forward, moving into the third spot off the drop of the green flag. He then moved up into second on Lap 5, where he remained for the rest of the event despite his best efforts to pass race leader Gary McLean.

As a result of top-fives throughout the season, including a victory at the Autumn Colours Classic, Emms finishes the year second in points.

A.J. Emms Scores First Career OSCAAR Modified Victory at Autumn Colours Classic

img_0344After coming close throughout the season, everything came together for A.J. Emms as he scored his first career feature victory in the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway.

Emms started off the weekend on a great note, winning his first qualifying heat, followed by a third place finish in his second heat.

Come Sunday for the feature, he started the 50-lap affair in the ninth position. He quickly began making his way towards the front, moving into the sixth position on Lap 6. He remained here till the first caution flew at Lap 10 for a spin deep in the back.

Emms got a good restart, remaining sixth as of Lap 13, till he was able to pass Gary Elliott for fifth at Lap 24 before the second caution flew for a spin on the backstretch. Emms kept working his way forward, getting a good restart to move up into the third position.

He remained second till Lap 37, when he slipped back to fifth through the course of some green flag racing. The sophomore driver didn’t give up, moving back up to third on the restart, followed by moving up to second under caution when the leader ran into problems.

Emms got a good restart and escaped the mayhem all around him to put the No. 14 Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie Modified out front with 10 laps to go.

Emms got a pair of good restarts to close out the race, picking up the race victory ahead of Robert Warnes and Brent McLean.

“The competition out there was so stiff,” he said in victory lane. “We were able to persevere. I knew it was going to be a race of getting to the end as it’s the Autumn Colours Classic, a lot of stuff happens. I have to thank my team, my dad for helping me out, and all my sponsors.”

Emms said the key to victory was saving tires throughout the 50-lap feature.

“You know there’s going to be lots of cautions here and I really wanted to save tires,” he said. “I knew that 8 car was tough if I was going to get here, and we were lucky enough to pull it down in victory lane.”

The victory allows Emms to move forward in the OSCAAR Race for the Cup, now entering Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest with a one-in-three shot at the OSCAAR Modified Championship against John Harper and Gary McLean. Whoever finishes the highest of these three drivers at Flamboro will be the champion.

Emms will now look to have a solid weekend at Flamboro Speedway this weekend on Saturday, Oct 14. Emms had a strong run at Flamboro earlier this year, posting a pair of podium finishes.

A.J. Emms Scores Top-Five Finish at Delaware

ajheatwinAfter leading the first half of the feature, A.J. Emms ran in the top-five all night en route to a fourth place finish.

Emms started off the night solidly, scoring the victory in his only heat race of the night. Starting from pole in the feature, Emms put the No. 14 Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie Modified out front ahead of the field. He was able to spread the lead out and looked to be on cruise control till the first caution flew at Lap 16 for a spin deep in the field.

Emms got a good restart, holding down the top spot ahead of defending series Gary McLean for the time being. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long as Emms was passed by McLean on Lap 20. Another caution then flew at Lap 24, which unfortunately saw the restart not go in Emms’ favor as he dropped back two more spots to fourth.

Emms was then able hold off Delaware Speedway veteran Jamie Cox on the last lap to cross the line fourth.

“Overall, a good night for us,” he said. “Finishing fourth was good after having motor issues last week. It’s good to be here. Led some laps, which is positive, and learned a lot which is always good when you come to the track. With the help of Peter Schotanus this week and Dave Lewis helping out tonight, I feel it was a positive night for our whole team.”

As a result of a solid season thus far, Emms will be one of seven drivers competing for the OSCAAR Modified Championship over the next four weeks in the OSCAAR Race for the Cup.

“We’re going to make some changes,” he said. “We’re going to change things up, try and keep improving like we have each week. Now the drive train needs some work. We’ve been working on handling – it’s been good, but we’ll keep getting better. Just looking forward to a fun Chase and that’s what this is about. Hopefully we can have some positive finishes throughout it.”

Emms will now look to have a solid weekend at Sauble Speedway, where the next OSCAAR Modified event takes place Friday August 27. Emms had a strong run at Sauble earlier this year, scoring a runner-up finish in the Rick Woolner Memorial to go with an eighth last season.

A.J. Emms Off to Strong Start This Season

IMG_1410It’s no secret that A.J. Emms has shown speed so far this season in the OSCAAR Modified ranks – just look at his finishes this year. In the first two races this year, he has posted a pair of top-fives, including a heat victory at Flamboro Speedway.

Returning to Flamboro on Saturday night, hopes were high for a great night of racing. Things started off rocky as Emms placed fifth and seventh in his pair of heat races.

As a result, he’d start deep in the field for the feature – starting 10th. Running with no clutch, he made his way to the front, picking off one car at a time en route to a fourth place finish. Unfortunately, post-race technical inspection did not go well with “unregistered tire” disqualification.

A.J. Emms will now focus on moving forward, looking to run well at Sauble Speedway on July 1 to keep up the strong early season performances.
