INNISFIL, Ontario — Running up front throughout the feature, A.J. Emms scored a top-five finish at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night.
Emms was fast right from the beginning of the night, scoring a runner-up in his first heat, followed by a third-place finish in the second qualifying race.
Starting up front in the feature, he would battle in the early stages with Dale Reinhart for sixth, ultimately scored fifth when the first caution came out on Lap 9. Restarting on the inside of the third row, he would battle side-by-side for fifth, fading back to sixth by Lap 14, before falling back to seventh six laps later.
As the race got into the second half, it seemed the No. 14 Modified continued to get better, as Emms was able to make a challenge back. He would get by Anthony DiBello for sixth just before the caution came out on Lap 44. Restarting on the outside of the third row, he’d move up into fifth prior to the next caution flag three laps later. The final restart would see him slip back a spot to cross the finish line in sixth, but a post-race disqualification saw him moved up into fifth in the final running order.
The next race on the schedule for Emms is Rick Woolner Memorial at Full Throttle Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 6.
