A.J. Emms Scores Podium at Sunset Speedway, Extends Points Lead

emmsINNISFIL, Ontario — Leading over half of the feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, A.J. Emms scored a podium finish in the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified feature.

The No. 14 Modified was quick right off the trailer, as Emms won his qualifying heat.

Drawing the pole position for the feature, Emms would break out into the early lead. Though as the race got into the middle portion, the handling began to go away on the No. 14 Modified. With a couple back-to-back restarts, the Lap 27 restart would not go his way as Emms ultimately dropped back to the third position.

The caution would then come out six laps later for an incident, with the race being called official as a result of lightning over the backstretch and the incoming storm.

“We didn’t really hit the nail on the head tonight, but we were definitely close and had some speed at the start of the race there,” he commented post-race. “The driver was able to hold on to her for the longest time even with the ill-handling car. Just on the restart there, I picked the wrong lane and what do you do? That’s just the racing deal, but overall, a solid night for us and the team.

“We’ve had a good couple of weeks so a third-place finish walking out of here is pretty solid, and we’re happy to be moving to Flamboro Speedway next week.”

With his third straight OSCAAR top-five finish, he extends his points lead to 17 markers over Anthony Dibello.

“The points lead is definitely a positive thing to have at this juncture of the season,” he said. “We’re very thankful to be in that position right now. At the beginning of the season we weren’t sure where we were going to fair up especially with the first two races, but very happy to have the points lead at this point in the season and continue the strong runs like this.”

The next race for Emms Racing is at Flamboro Speedway, where they have finished on the podium before, with four runner-ups over the past two seasons.

“Flamboro Speedway is one of my favorite tracks as well, as its right up there with Delaware (Speedway),” he commented. “It’s one of those tracks that you definitely have to drive. I’m excited to see how the car works there, and hopefully have a strong run there and get a full feature in. I think we’ll fair fairly well.”
