“Entering into the season we feel confident that we’ve done the work needed to compete for wins,” A.J. Emms said. “Running a part time schedule allows us to focus on singular events with the attitude of going to run at the front. With a strong field of modified drivers, we’ve got our work cut out for us but we feel up to the challenge.”
Last season, Emms ran eight events on the series schedule with six top-fives seven top-10’s including a season-best runner-up at Jukasa Motor Speedway. Notably, he was able to reach victory lane at Peterborough Speedway with a heat win.
“Although we did have a lot of bad luck last year, it’s still not an excuse as to how we ran,” he commented. “We did have some strong runs but my team and I expect more. Moving into this season we need more speed out of both the car and driver to make it happen.”
Emms has competed in the OSCAAR Modified class over the past four seasons, scoring two feature victories, 25 top-five’s and 30 top-10 finishes. Currently, he ranks fourth on the OSCAAR all-time top-five finishes list.

Although the schedule has not been finalized for the 2019 season yet, Emms does expect to have the No. 14 Modified out at Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity weekend on May 18 and 19. The modifieds will run a pair of qualifying heats on Saturday to set the field, followed by a 40-lap feature on the Sunday.
In seven starts at the Innisfil oval, Emms has scored four top-10 finishes, including a track-best fifth in last year’s Spring Velocity feature.
“To win the first event at Sunset Speedway would be huge,” he said. “We feel that we’ve got a handle on the race track but haven’t been able to put together runs. With the homework we’ve done this off season, we hope to be able to do that.”
The team is also planning to run the second-ever event for the series at Jukasa Motor Speedway on June 1. Last year, Emms ran in the top-five throughout the feature en route to a runner-up finish in his first start on the half-mile oval.
As mentioned, BAE Environmental is back with Emms Racing for the third straight season.

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Despite being involved in an early race incident, A.J. Emms made his way back to the front to score a top-five finish in the OSCAAR Modified Autumn Colours Classic feature at Peterborough Speedway.
Emms started off the weekend by finishing sixth in his Friday night heat, followed by a third in his Saturday qualifier.
Starting 15th in Sunday’s feature, he escaped the first lap incident without any damage to the No. 14 Modified. He then looked set to make his way forward, battling for positions mid-pack. Unfortunately, with just seven laps on the board, he made contact with the back of another competitor, sending that driver for a spin.
Sent to the back as an involved car for the restart, he would make his way back up to 14th by Lap 17, cracking the top-10 when he avoided an incident ahead of him on Lap 23. Restarting 10th with 28 scheduled laps to go, he’d avoid the next couple of incidents, moving his way up to the sixth spots. The outside groove proved tough on the restarts, as Emms slipped back to ninth. He would begin to make ground back up, passing Tim Tolton for eighth on Lap 28.
A couple more incidents for the leaders worked in his favor as he moved up to sixth. He then got by Chad Strawn on Lap 36 to move into the top-five. The caution would fly a lap later for a significant incident and due to hitting the time limit, single-file restarts would be the call for the rest of the event. Emms would battle hard on the ensuing restart, finishing the event in fifth.

HAMILTON, Ontario — Keeping out of trouble throughout the 50-lap Frostoberfest feature paid off for A.J. Emms en route to a podium finish.
Emm showed speed in qualifying, finishing second in the first heat, followed by a third in the second qualifier.
Starting sixth for the feature, he remained there through the first five laps, despite a pair of cautions. He’d there until Lap 41, when he’d avoid an incident between two cars to move up to fourth. Restarting inside the top-five with 10 laps to go. he’d battle side-by-side with Jason Keen until the event’s fourth caution on Lap 44. He’d move into fourth solidly on the restart, getting alongside Keen for third with five laps to go. He would complete the pass a lap later, crossing the line in third-place.
“Overall, the night went pretty well,” Emms said afterwards. “We found some stuff at the start of the night that really helped us out in terms of handling. We really struggled last weekend at the Velocity weekend, but I think we definitely have the car together; at least we had some thing to work with tonight and some consistency. Overall, looking for a little bit more speed, but still very happy with a third-place finish. Pretty much just went out there – I knew it was 50 laps, so just found a pocket because I knew at the end of the season in these big races, guys tend to get aggressive. So if I can find a pocket and hang out there for awhile, and then see what we can do at the end, that seemed to work pretty well. So overall, a great night. The car is in one piece, which is a positive, and we’re looking forward to Autumn Colours next weekend.”
While noting he was fighting a tick tight condition through the feature, he feels missing a little bit of straightline speed kept him from chasing down the top-two.
“Overall, it’s just getting that little bit of extra speed,” he commented. “The car didn’t handle terrible or anything like that – but kind of one of those things that stump you because we just didn’t quite have the speed that we needed to in the feature. Throughout the heats we were pretty good, but just lacking that in the feature with the cooler temperatures.”
The next modified event for Emms Racing will be the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway, which Emms will enter confidence following a runner-up finish there in August.
“We’re ecstatic to go to Peterborough,” he said. “Peterborough is a place we love. There’s going to be a lot of cars out there so it’s definitely going to be different racing than tonight, and the whole atmosphere of the weekend is so different. We’re just happy to be apart of it. We’ll go back this week and do our homework, and hopefully be able to rock and have something for them just like we did tonight – but hopefully two spots better.”

INNISFIL, Ontario — A.J Emms would battle hard throughout the 50-lap OSCAAR Modified Velocity 250 feature at Sunset Speedway en route to a top-10 finish.
Emms started off the weekend by placing seventh in the first heat, followed by a runner-up in the second qualifier.
Starting 13th for the feature on Sunday, he would escape the first two incidents without any contact, allowing him to move up to 12th by the second caution at Lap 3. Restarting just outside of the top-10, he’d battle for 11th with Jeff Showler, taking the spot, remaining there until the next caution flew at the halfway mark. Restarting once again just outside of the top-10 with 26 laps to go, he would avoid a multi-car incident in turn four to move up into the top-10. Restarting ninth with 20 laps to go, he’d battle for eighth with Luke Gignac, but was unable to complete the pass, instead falling back to 10th. He’d remain there until the fifth caution at Lap 45, which he’d miss the spinning car to move up a spot to ninth. He’d battle hard through the final restarts to maintain the track position, finishing the race in ninth.
As previously announced, the next modified event for Emms Racing will be the Autumn Colours Classic, something that has Emms very ecstatic for based on his victory there two years ago and a runner-up at Peterborough in August.

INNISFIL, Ontario — When the OSCAAR Modifieds take to Sunset Speedway this weekend for the Velocity 250, one of the drivers in the field hoping to take home the win will be A.J. Emms.
“To win at the Velocity would really mean a lot to our whole team being that it’s both a big event and a home track for our team,” he said. “With the luck we’ve had this season, we’ve only run a part time bases which has made us even hungrier for wins. We’re going to do everything in our power to have a strong run.”
Knowing that it will be a long race with 40 laps being the distance, Emms says his plan is to run as hard as he can all race long.
“We need to start near the front, exercise patience, and stay out of trouble to be there at the end,” he added.
So far this season, Emms Racing has been successful with top-five finishes in each of their appearances this season, highlighted by a pair of runner-ups at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
The confidence entering this weekend also comes from a top-five in his most recent Sunset Speedway appearance.
“Having a lot of laps at sunset is definitely an advantage and helps our teams confidence heading into this weekend,” he said. “We’re excited to get out onto the track.”
