Emms Receives Best Appearing Award at OSCAAR Banquet

Following a successful season, A.J. Emms and his crew joined his fellow drivers and their crews at the OSCAAR Awards banquet on Saturday, February 3.

With just two finishes outside of the top-10 all season long, A.J. Emms put together a career-best season en route to finishing second in the OSCAAR Modified points standings.

On top of being called up for his top-five points finish, Emms received the Best Appearing Car Award for the second straight year in a row. Once again, shout-out to both Creecher’s Design and TSS Top Shops on a job well done.

“First of all, I would like to thank everybody involved with OSCAAR,” Emms said. “This is a big organization, as you can see from all the people that we are sitting next two, and you should all be proud of yourselves for how each team not only contributed to the brand of OSCAAR and making it this whole show go, but all those little accomplishments throughout the year. Racing is a big commitment, and I know each team has put in a lot of work.

“I would like to congratulate the champions this year as that’s something that we all strive for; that’s what I’m still working on, and getting kind of closer. I’m very fortunate that my crew, family, sponsors, and fiancé have been able to support me throughout all of this, and I would like to thank you all for being here.”

With the final wrap now put on the 2017 season, focus has already began to shift to 2018 with preparation in high gear for the upcoming season. The team has already confirmed they will be taking part in the OSCAAR Modified division once again, with primary sponsorship from BAE Environmental. The rest of the marketing partners and plans will be announced in the coming weeks.

2nd in Modified Points – A.J. Emms

With consistency on a weekly basis, A.J. Emms put together another solid year of OSCAAR Modified competition en route to a runner-up in the year-end standings.

“Looking back on 2017, I feel that it was overall successful,” he said. “We learned a lot through the year and as a team persevered through a lot of bad luck. With that being said, we expect a lot out of ourselves and would love to click off more victories in 2018!”

Kicking off the year at Flamboro Speedway, Emms showed speed right from the start of the year as he challenged Chris Milwain heavily through the middle portion of the feature en route to a runner-up. The momentum carried forward to Kawartha Speedway as he posted a fifth-place finish, followed by a third in the return to Flamboro.

As OSCAAR began the summer, there were no signs of slowing down as the first trip to Sauble Speedway saw Emms post a fourth. He then ran as high as second in the return to Kawartha, en route to another fourth.

It seemed as the year went on, Emms just got faster as the third trip to Flamboro Speedway saw him lead the first half of the feature, before another runner-up to Milwain. Unfortunately, his luck took a turn at the halfway mark of the 2017 at Peterborough Speedway, as he would get spun on the last after running second throughout.

The driver of the No. 14 BAE Environmental, Artech Promotional Products, Sunshine Super Wash, Thor Motors Orillia, Klotz Canada, TSS Top Shops and Creecher’s Design Modified didn’t let that deter him, though. Returning to Sauble Speedway, he would survive the late-race chaos on the frontstretch in the final laps to score his lone victory of the 2017 campaign.

“The most memorable moment of 2017 on track would have to be an action packed victory at Sauble Speedway,” he said. “I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by a great group of people that helped to formulate many off track memories throughout the season as well.”

Within striking distance of the title, it seemed now was the time for Emms and company to mount a charge. He showed speed at Sunset Speedway, running as high as fourth in the early stages, but a mechanical issue took him out of the running on Lap 13. The bad luck carried with him to Flamboro Speedway, as a combination of a flat tire and overheating saw him place 15th.

Despite the late-season adversity, Emms was able to finish off the 2017 season strong with a runner-up at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic.

On behalf of OSCAAR, congratulations to A.J. Emms on a successful season. We look forward to seeing you back on track in 2018.

A.J. Emms Set for Fourth Season of OSCAAR Competition

After a pair of back-to-back seasons coming up just shy on the OSCAAR Modified Championship, A.J. Emms confirmed his team will be back once again in 2018 with their sights set on the title. Emms also confirmed that BAE Environmental will be back as the primary sponsor on the No. 14 Modified.

“As a team we’re excited for what 2018 has to offer,” he said. “With the modified schedule released its hard not be to excited. With a variety of tracks on the schedule we look forward to battling with some of the best and bringing our best as a team each week. Along with this, we look forward to having the Peter (Schatanis) Built Limited Late Model out more often at a variety of tracks.”

The 2018 OSCAAR schedule will see Emms and company hit a series of tracks across the province, ranging from Sunset Speedway, to Kawartha Speedway, to Peterborough Speedway, Sauble Speedway and Flamboro Speedway. This year will also see the first trip for the OSCAAR Modifieds to recently re-opened Jukasa Motor Speedway.

“Without a doubt I look forward most to the race at the Jukasa Motor Speedway,” Emms said. “Having been a spectator at their inaugural race, I was very impressed with the facility and staff. The history of the facility also helps to build my excitement for the event hearing of stories from legendary racers competing at the Speedway.”

All of the events this year are expected to be action-packed, though, based on the talent level in returning drivers and new prospects as the division grows more with each passing year,

“I feel as though the modified division hosts some of the best teams and racing in the province, if not the country,” he said. “With a variety of drivers joining the series it only builds to this competition level. I am privileged to be apart of this group and am beyond excited to get back on the track in 2018.”

As noted, 2017 was filled with success as the driver of the No. 14 Modified scored six heat wins and eight feature top-five’s.

“Looking back on 2017, I feel that it was overall successful,” he said. “We learned a lot through the year and as a team persevered through a lot of bad luck. With that being said, we expect a lot out of ourselves and would love to click off more victories in 2018!”

The highlight of the year was mid-summer at Sauble Speedway, when Emms emerged for his second career OSCAAR victory, following up his triumph in the Autumn Colours Classic to round out the 2016 campaign.

“The most memorable moment of 2017 on track would have to be an action packed victory at Sauble Speedway,” he said. “I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by a great group of people that helped to formulate many off track memories throughout the season as well.”

Now looking to challenge for the championship, Emms says the key will getting more speed out of the car, so they score more checkered flags, while making sure they’re prepared the worst of situations and combat bad luck.

Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to the Emms Racing website at http://www.ajemms.com, as well as the team’s facebook page via https://www.facebook.com/ajemmsracing/ for details on 2018 when they’re released.

A.J. Emms Scores Runner-Up at Autumn Colours Classic

Running up front all feature long, A.J. Emms scored a runner-up finish in the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway.

Emms was quick in his heats, avoiding a wreck in the first qualifier to finish second, while winning the other one.

Starting fifth, he moved up to third in the opening laps prior to the third caution at Lap 6. He’d continue to move forward, eventually challenging Luke Gignac for the lead at Lap 11. Ultimately, he’d slip back to third before the seventh caution came out on Lap 16. Restarting third, he was unable to make much ground on that restart.

Despite race officials reverting to single-file restarts following nine cautions in the first 23 laps, he was able to get alongside Gignac for second at Lap 30, but the caution flew before he completed the pass. He was able to make it work on the restart afterwards, though, moving up to second with 20 laps to go.

He would try a couple different ways by Gary McLean on the restarts to close out the event, but was unable to make it work, crossing the finish line in second.

“Overall, it was a great run for us,” Emms said post-race. “Really want to thank the sponsors for their support – wouldn’t be here without them. I want to thank my dad, my parents, my crew, my mom, my step-mom Jayne, my girlfriend for letting me do this because I spend a lot of time. I know over this off-season I’m going to probably spend twice as much time because hate finishing second, but very thankful to be here. Thanks to my crew, and thanks to everyone for coming out today.”

With eight top-fives this season, Emms placed second in the season-ending OSCAAR Modified standings. Emms is set to use it as motivation towards being even stronger next year.

“I’m definitely going to feel that drive over the winter, and going to do everything that I can to get better myself, and make the car better, and keep learning,” he said. “We’ll be back next year, and keep coming out here and running the best that we can every single week.”

He went on to add, “Racing is a learning game, as far as I’m concerned. You never stop learning. Nobody knows everything so you got to learn. Overall, very happy to be here and very thankful that I got this opportunity.”

Emms and team are proud to be supported by BAE Environmental, Artech Promotional Products, Sunshine Super Wash, Thor Motors Orillia, Klotz Canada, TSS Top Shops and Creecher’s Design this season.

Emms Endures Overheating Issues at Flamboro Speedway

After starting the feature strongly, problems in the final laps resulted in Emms Racing failing to complete all the laps.

A.J. Emms was fast in Saturday qualifying action, scoring a runner-up in both heats.

Starting second for the feature, he battled side-by-side with Chris Milwain for the opening laps, before slotting himself behind him in second. He’d remain there through the next pair of restarts, poised for another podium finish. However, a flat tire would see Emms go around for the spin in turn two on Lap 20.

With the tire changed, he started at the tail of the field, driving his way up through some of the traffic before having to pull off the track with five laps to go due to overheating. He was credited with a 15th-place finish.

With seven top-fives this season, Emms slips back to third in the standings, just 16 points behind Luke Gignac for the top spot with one race remaining.

Emms and company will be back in action at the next OSCAAR Modified event, which is scheduled for Peterborough Speedway on October 6-8, as part of the track’s Autumn Colours Classic weekend. A.J. Emms Scores Heat Victory at Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway

While the weekend started off well for A.J. Emms, it didn’t finish off as he wanted with a mechanical issue taking him out of the running.

As noted, Saturday afternoon went well for Emms as he placed third in his first heat, followed by a victory in the second qualifier.

Starting 12th in the feature, he began to make his way up through the field immediately, getting alongside John Harper for sixth at Lap 3. He was able to clear him in the next couple of laps, before getting alongside Marty Monette for fifth at Lap 8, and completing that pass a lap later.

The first caution of the event came out on Lap 13 for a spin off of turn two. Feeling an issue, Emms headed down pit road to the attention of the team, in hopes of being able to solve it and return to the track. Ultimately, it was something that couldn’t fixed right then, ending his feature early

With seven top-fives this season, Emms slips back to second in the standings, just 13 points behind Luke Gignac for the top spot with two races remaining.

A.J. Emms Scores Second Career OSCAAR Victory at Sauble Speedway

The strong runs each weekend on the OSCAAR tour paid off on Saturday night at Sauble Speedway, as A.J. Emms scored his second career OSCAAR Modified feature victory.

Emms started off the night showing speed, winning the second qualifier for his fourth victory of 2017. He then fought back for a third-place finish in the second heat despite being involved in a Lap 1 accident on the backstretch.

Starting seventh for the feature, Emms moved up to the fifth spot on the drop of the green flag. He then avoided a spin ahead of him to move up to fourth, followed by a pass on the restart to third.

For the rest of the feature, he would keep pace with the race leaders, running closely behind them as the laps ticked by, while putting together solid restarts after each of the cautions.

On a restart with six laps to go, the battle between the top-two competitors ahead of Emms picked up, with them running side-by-side till contact was made, resulting in a crash. Emms was able to get through the mess unscathed, taking over the top spot.

With the speedway having a time limit in the place, the feature would be called with five laps to go, with Emms getting credited as the race winner.

With seven top-fives this season, Emms takes over the points lead, just four points ahead of Luke Gignac for the top spot with three races remaining.

AJ Emms Runs Up Front at Peterborough Until Late Race Spin

AJ Emms was set for another strong performance at Peterborough Speedway this past weekend, when a late-race incident relegated him to a eighth-place finish.

Emms started off the night strong, finishing third and second in his pair of qualifying heats.

Come feature time, he worked his way up into contention for a podium finish despite no power steering. In the closing laps, he battled back and forth with Mark Gordon for the runner-up position. The pair unfortunately made contact on the last lap, resulting in a spin. As a result, Emms would be scored in the eighth position.

AJ Emms Scores Heat Victory, Runner-Up at Flamboro Speedway

The strong performances for AJ Emms continued this season at Flamboro Speedway, as he ran up front throughout the feature en route to a runner-up finish.

Emms started off the night strong, placing second in his first heat, followed by a win in the second qualifier.

Starting on pole for the 30-lap feature, he jumped out to the early lead to pace the first six laps prior to the first caution. He would lose the lead on the restart, slipping back to second till the second yellow flag waved.

Emms got a better restart this time around, taking back the top spot and leading till the third caution flew at Lap 14. The restart saw a battle for the lead between Emms and Chris Milwain, with Milwain taking the top spot on Lap 15 ahead of Emms.

From there on, Emms lost some ground to Milwain as he pulled away for the victory, though managed to keep a gap over the competitors behind him to pick up a runner-up finish.

With six straight top-fives, he currently sits second in the standings, just two points behind Cory Horner for the top spot.

Emms started off the night solidly, winning his first heat, followed by a fifth-place finish in the second qualifier.

Starting eighth for the feature, he immediately began to make his way to the front, fighting for the second spot side-by-side with Marty Monette on Lap 3. The pair continued to run side-by-side till the first caution flew on Lap 5 as a result of a crash in turns one and two.
