A.J. Emms Picks Up Heat Victory, Podium Finish at Flamboro Speedway

IMG_1560The solid season for A.J. Emms continued as he’d post a third place finish at Flamboro Speedway this past weekend.

Emms started off the night by finishing second in his first heat, followed by scoring the victory in the second heat.

Starting the feature in sixth, he was able to avoid a first lap crash to move up to the third spot. From there on, he held on to the track position while battling a clutch issue all the way to a third place finish.

For Emms, it marks the third top-five of the 2016 OSCAAR season.

Emms will now focus his attention to Delaware Speedway, where the next OSCAAR Modified event takes Friday July 22. Earlier this season, Emms posted a fourth place finish after running the front runners all race long.

A.J. Emms Posts Fourth Place Finish at Delaware Speedway

IMG_4396Running up front all race long at Delaware Speedway, A.J. Emms had a solid run en route to finishing fourth.

Emms started off the night solidly, finishing fourth in his heat race qualifier to set him up to start third for the feature.

From the third spot, Emms began to make his quickly, moving up to second on Lap 3. He then chased down Brian McLean, passing him to put the No. 14 Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops out front on Lap 7.

Emms led the next couple of laps, till he was passed by Justin Demelo and Jeff Showler, causing him to slip back to third. He ran third till right near the end when Gary McLean slipped past him for the spot.

He’d cross the line in the fourth spot to take over the points lead, six points ahead of Gary McLean.

“Overall, it was a really positive night for us,” he commented. “Coming into Delaware, we weren’t sure of what to expect with this new car. Coming to the tracks that we haven’t been to yet is really testing, honestly, because we don’t know what we’re getting to.

“Thanks to Peter Schotanus for coming to help. He was really good on a lot of helpful advice for us and steering us in the right direction, so that was really positive. The crew guys have been working really hard all work and you know what? We came out of here with a fourth place finish, learned some stuff on the racecar and next time it’ll help us get to victory lane.

“That front pack of four cars was really fast – everybody was running really good. All of my competitors ran me good and clean, so that was awesome and overall, really happy with the night.”

The OSCAAR Modifieds continue their stretch of races for June as they will invade Full Throttle Motor Speedway this weekend on Saturday June 11 for the third race of the season.

“Next weekend – I love Full Throttle,” he commented. “We had a bit of a clutch issue in the feature so I’ll have to rectify that for next week. Overall, I’m looking forward to getting to Full Throttle and seeing what I can do with this new car. I just love this place. I want to get back behind the wheel of this racecar.”

A.J. Emms Posts Best Career Finish of Second at Flamboro

aj009Despite going for a spin, A.J. Emms rebounded to post a runner-up finish at Flamboro Speedway.

The Orillia, Ontario native started off the weekend on a high, winning both of his heats to set himself up for a strong starting spot for the feature.

“We unloaded Saturday not knowing what to expect going into practice,” Emms said. “After the first few laps we realized we had some fine tuning to do to get the balance where we wanted it. J.R. Fitzpatrick and Mike Westwood were a big influence in helping us doing this, and without their advice our weekend wouldn’t have been as smooth.

“Winning my first two heat races Saturday was a big moral booster to our whole team after a long winter of hard work.”

When it came time for the feature on Sunday, the speed was there, but luck had her way of playing nasty games. Contact was part of the nature of the day, and some resulted in a spin for Emms. Despite that, though, Emms stayed determined for a strong finish, which is what ended up happening.

When the checkered flag flew on the day, he’d cross the line in the second spot for his best career finish.

“After a wild feature on Sunday, I was very fortunate to come out of Flamboro with a second place finish, and was really impressed with how the car worked,” he said. “Big thank you to my crew for all their hard work all weekend.”

With a solid start to the year, Emms will head to Delaware Speedway on June 3, which was the sight of a third-place finish last season.

“With last weekend behind us, I’m really am looking forward to getting to Delaware speedway next week to see how we stack up against some of the province’s best,” Emms commented.

Emms and team thank Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie for the support.

A.J. Emms Unveils 2016 Scheme

IMG_9026TORONTO —- At the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Show, A.J. Emms unveiled the brand new look that he will carry for the new season.

Sporting the No. 14, the blue and orange captured the fan’s attention throughout the weekend as they stopped by check out the car, and pick up a copy of the OSCAAR schedule.

The enthusiasm from the fans is shared by Emms, as he expressed excitement about the upcoming year.

“I mean, my family has really come behind me,” Emms commented. “Everybody has really stepped in just giving me a hand and we have a lot of great sponsors that have come on board for this season – Davenport Subaru, Sunshine Super Wash, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, TSS Top Shops, Bromley Automotive. There’s been a lot of people that have been on board and makes me excited for this season.

“With this new car and the way it is looking right now, it’s just makes me ecstatic.”

Last year, Emms had a successful rookie campaign in the series, scoring four top-fives and seven top-10s en route to finishing sixth in the season-ending standings. The season was highlighted by a career-best third at Delaware Speedway in September.

The new season brings not only a new car, but also changes to the championship format as OSCAAR has adapted the Race for the Cup Championship format.

All the drivers will have 10 races to qualify for the championship battle, with the qualification period ending on August 19 at Delaware Speedway. The top eight drivers whom have competed in 90% of the series events, or the top seven drivers plus the Chase for the Colours winner, will be eligible for the Race for the Cup. Notably, points will be reset equally for the eight drivers prior to each round during the format.

The Race for the Cup will then be four races in length. The lowest driver in points will be eliminated following the August 27 event at Sauble Speedway, and the lowest two remaining drivers will be eliminated in the following races at Full Throttle Motor Speedway on September 10 and Flamboro Speedway on October 2.

The final three drivers will be set for the championship showdown at Peterborough Speedway on October 9, with guaranteed starting spots of fourth, fifth and sixth in the feature; the order they start will be set by heat points. The top finisher of those three will be declared the 2016 OSCAAR Modified Champion.

“It’s definitely exciting,” Emms commented. “It’s going to add some excitement to the series. I hope it does that for the fans and everybody else involved. For me, it’s going to be different. I’ve never really in a series or format such as that, and going ahead it’s going to be ahead it’s going to be a trial and learn sort of deal. So we’ll see how it goes. I’m defiantly excited and hope I can be in the top-three in the final race.”

Last year, Emms had a successful rookie campaign in the series, scoring four top-fives and seven top-10s en route to finishing sixth in the season-ending standings. The season was highlighted by a career-best third at Delaware Speedway in September.

Obviously, the goal this year is to break through for the first victory, but Emms says it’s tough call as to say where and when that could happen.

“With never having this race car on the track, it’s one of those things where you have no idea,” he expressed. “With this car, I may not even able to win. It’s a beautiful piece, so we’ll see what we can do with it.

“Personally, I’m a big fan of Full Throttle Motor Speedway (from) just racing a bunch of cars there in the past. It’s just a place that I love to go. So if I’m going to say one, it’s Full Throttle Motor Speedway.”

Emms will receive marketing support from Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie.
